ATHENS PRIDE / KISS ME EVERYWHERE
Yesterday I went to the Athens Pride, a parade to support homosexuality in Athens. It was amazing, all the people there were so cheerful and unprejudiced. There were drums and a huge flag with the colors of the rainbow surrounded by people clapping their hands and whizzing.
SOME HISTORY:
The first attempt to organize the Pride event in Greece was attempted by AKOE (Gay Liberation Movement in Greece) on June 28, 1980 in Athens, delineating the main event as a political coward and repeated 2 years later at the Zappeion.
It took 10 years to organize similar events, mostly from individual initiatives (Hill Strefi 1992, 1994, 1995, Field of Mars in 1993, 1996 and 1998 indoor and 1999). At the same time on the beach of Thessaloniki are the corresponding events from OPOTH (Team Initiative Gay Thessaloniki).
The beginning of the Athens Pride, signaled in 2005 with the creation of the "Pride Festival Athens - Athens Pride" that with the cooperation and participation of many Greek organizations and LGBT association organizes a corresponding to the foreign countries' Pride, which every year receives a massive participation. It happens always the month of June in downtown Athens, the square Klafthmonos.
